CREATEs is pleased to introduce our first three international interns who are working on research projects at the Center for eight (8) weeks. Three students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Tirupati were invited to participate in CREATES’ first internship program. All three students majoring in Civil Engineering at IIT had expressed an exceptional level of interest in CREATEs’ research activities after a recent presentation made by Dr. Yusuf Mehta (Director, CREATEs). Students are currently working directly under the supervision of CREATEs’ researchers on projects that are of most interest to them. Through this experience, students learn what it takes to be proficient researchers and gain the skills necessary to successfully complete research projects.
“It has been a great experience because I have be able to work on my own part of the project from start to finish. This gives the opportunity to be able to learn all the little details of research”, Bhathini Bhagyasree commented on the direct impact of the internship.
Ajay Ram Markapudi added, “From day one, I was very excited about my project since I was very interested in doing research in concrete and I had some good experience in my field of interest in my home country. Cold Weather Concrete is a new subject that excites me and….I am doing my best to successfully learn the subject.”
As part of the CREATEs mission, we seek to ensure a diverse working environment that educates and trains the next generation of professionals, and enhances the skill sets of the current workforce that can meet the engineering demands of the 21st century.
