Ph.D. or MS Position in Construction Materials and Pavement Engineering at Rowan University
We are currently seeking to hire one MS and/or Ph.D. student to work at Center for Research and Education in Advanced Transportation Engineering System (CREATES) at Rowan University in the area of construction materials and pavement engineering, with expertise in asphalt binders and mixture performance characterization or computational modeling in pavements at Rowan University. The expected start date is September 1, 2021.
Research Fields: This position focuses on the full-scale and laboratory testing of hot mix asphalt mixtures containing conductive and other types of additives. Testing of asphalt binders containing fibers and conductive additives may also be part of this position. Finite element modeling of pavement structures containing self-deicing electrical heating elements or Geogrid or geosynthetics in pavements, or composite pavements may be another integral part.
Requirement for Admission: Bachelor/Master degree in Civil Engineering. Background in geotechnical and/or pavement engineering is a plus. The ideal candidate will have excellent programming and communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Work Place: Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 20,000 students. CREATEs at Rowan University is a comprehensive transportation research center that was established as a unique center equipped with a state-of-the-art accelerated pavement testing facility and a Heavy Vehicle Simulator. In fact, CREATEs is the only academic research center in the Northeast United States (US) equipped with such resources. The center’s mission is to conduct cutting-edge research and find innovative solutions to current and future challenges related to transportation engineering. CREATEs has expanded its capabilities to integrate research in Intelligent Transportation Systems, transportation safety, geotechnical engineering, cementitious materials, and Structural engineering by collaborating with faculty members at Rowan University. These collaborations will allow CREATEs to seek research funding in the abovementioned areas. The CREATES award is approximately $23 M since its inception. CREATEs provides hands-on experience to approximately sixty undergraduate and graduate students in various fields of transportation.
Application: To be considered, please send your CV (with transcripts, publications) and English test scores (TOEFL, GRE, or IELTs) to mehta@rowan.edu. You must also submit an application to Rowan graduate school (global.rowan.edu). The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. Please feel free to contact Dr. Yusuf Mehta for more information.
