WORKSHOP LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of a two-day workshop, the attendees will be able to do the following:
- Understand the philosophy of the current empirical design guide.
- Define the primary failures in flexible and rigid pavements and establish their primary cause.
- Conduct stress-strain analysis under single and multiple layered systems for flexible and rigid pavement systems.
- Conduct sensitivity analysis of stiffness and thickness on stress/strain response and understand its implications on design.
- Understand the concept of Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL) and how to calculate ESALs for pavement design.
- Understand the different criteria for designing a drainage layer for the pavement sections.
- Conduct mechanistic-empirical (Asphalt Institute) and empirical (AASHTO) flexible pavement design.
- Define the different types of rigid pavement systems and understand their applications.
- Conduct mechanistic-empirical (PCA) and empirical (AASHTO) rigid pavement design.
- Understand the basis of pavement design using Pavement ME Software of flexible and rigid pavement (demo only)
