National Summer Transportation Institute

The Center for Research and Education in Advanced Transportation Engineering Systems (CREATES) of the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering at Rowan University will host the 2019 National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) for high school students entering grades 10 to 12 on the University’s main Glassboro campus in Gloucester County from July 8 to July 19, 2019.

The Institute is for New Jersey high school students interested in learning more about engineers and the ways in which they impact our world and society. This two-week educational program is free of charge to all accepted students; housing, meals and transportation for field trips are also included.

The program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration’s National Summer Transportation Institute program and Rowan University. The goal of the program is to engage students in projects and field trips that demonstrate how all types of engineers (from aerospace to software) plan and maintain our systems of transportation around the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The curriculum includes a wide variety of exciting hands-on activities, discussions, and field trips intended to engage and inspire NTSI students, parts of which will allow students to meet with professional engineers and instructors from around the state. Students will also participate in hands-on engineering lab activities in South Jersey Technology Park’s state-of-the-art facilities at Rowan University’s West Campus. These activities are designed to help them better understand engineering within the transportation industry. Fields trips will include tours of locations and traffic systems not normally accessible to the general public, providing students with a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at system operations, equipment, and more.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to explore the world of engineering, as well as discover educational and career path opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines, particularly in relation to the transportation industry. Eligible high school students interested in participating in the program should download and complete an application. All applications and required documents are due no later than Friday, June 7, 2019.
