Biography

Dr. Cheng Zhu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rowan University. Dr. Zhu’s research primarily concerns multi-scale geomaterial behavior under multiphysics coupled processes across various time scales, for applications in geological storage, transportation geotechnics, and energy geotechnics. His research is currently supported by federal and state agencies such as NSF (National Science Foundation), DoD-CRREL (Department of Defense – Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory), NJDOT (New Jersey Department of Transportation), as well as some industrial collaborators. At Rowan, Dr. Zhu teaches courses in geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics. He serves in several technical committees in ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) and TRB (Transportation Research Board) and is also a member of the Future Leader program in American Rock Mechanics Association. He is a recipient of the "Researcher of the Year 2022” Award from New Jersey Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
