Biography

Dr. Yusuf Mehta joined Rowan University in 2001. He developed CREATES and assumed a role of its founding director, since its opening in 2016. CREATES was established as a unique center equipped with a state-of-the-art accelerated pavement testing facility and a Heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS). In fact, CREATES is the only academic research center in the Northeast United States (US) equipped with such resources. The center's mission is to conduct cutting-edge research and find innovative solutions to current and future challenges related to transportation engineering. In the short five years under the leadership of Dr. Mehta, the center has attracted close to $40 million dollars. In addition, to attracting large research grants from Department of Defense and New Jersey Department of Transportation, Dr. Mehta has pursued grants from a broad range of federal, state, local, agencies, the breadth of the research and outreach footprint has led to sustained growth, as these agencies have continued to support the CREATES team over the years.

In addition, he has pursued funding in education by attracting the prestigious US Department of Education-GAANN, which will fund thirteen doctoral students in the field of Transportation Engineering and Engineering Education. This will be a catalyst to significantly expand the doctoral program in the HMR College of Engineering. In addition, he is leading the FHWA-NJDOT funded National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) summer program over the last four years. The goal of the NSTI to provide hands-on experience to diverse groups of high school students. He also developed a CREATES fellowship program funded by plants in the state of New Jersey to provide hands-on experience to undergraduate fellows.
