Soils and Geotechnical Engineering
Title of the Project: Development of iFROST MAPPER for Geomaterials Characterization in Cold Regions.
Project description: Construct the iFROST MAPPER based on high-frequency electromagnetic induction (HFEMI) for geophysical characterization in cold regions, provided with the development of a standardized procedure for electromagnetic induction tests on geomaterials and data inversion of HFEMI responses.
Funding agency: U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)
Funding period: 2023 – 2025
Pavement Technology and Asset Management
Title of the Project: Establishing Distress-Based Triggers for Selection of Pavement Preservation Treatments in New Jersey.
Project description: Validate the draft standard method for skid resistance testing via a pilot project and study the effect of tire conditioning distance on the test data.
Funding agency: New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
Funding period: 2024 – 2025
Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Transportation Safety and Mobility
Title of the Project: Evaluation of NJDOT Hardened Traffic Paint Markings and Stripes Performance.
Project description: This project aims to obtain and analyze relevant technical and performance data of various pavement marking materials, and to determine which product(s) can be used to stripe various roadway surfaces to withstand the NJ weather and traffic conditions. In addition, this project will evaluate: drying time issues, alternative testing protocols, durability issues, cost benefits, temporary markings, and to develop an alternative specification for quick application of paints when supply chain issues arise.
Funding agency: New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
Funding period: 2023-2026
Sustainable Additive Construction
Title of the Project: Basic solution for 3D-printing of Ultra-high Performance Concrete.
Project description: Develop different ultra-high performance concrete mixes for layer-by-layer additive construction. Verify both fresh and hardened properties of the developed mixes.
Funding agency: U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)- USACE- ERDC- CERL through Florida International University
Funding period: 2023 – 2025
