Developing Indicators for Comprehensive Evaluation of Equity in Transportation Systems

Abstract:

Equity in transportation means the fair distribution of benefits and costs, and agencies aim for it, but measuring it is difficult given the different types of equity, the range of impacts, the mix of measurement units, and the categories of people involved. This project developed an evaluation model that assesses equity in transportation systems by identifying indicator measures along with their thresholds and input weights, and it offers recommendations for building equity into transportation planning.
