New Jersey Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety: Emerging Countermeasures for Pedestrian Safety

Status: Completed

Funding Agency: New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)

Abstract:

Pedestrian crashes have grown, and a range of countermeasures including intelligent transportation systems technologies have been proposed to address them. No single reference brought those countermeasures together. This study reviewed the available ITS-based technologies and the case studies behind them to give practitioners, engineers, and decision makers a working picture of what is available. Of roughly 400 papers screened, 24 were carried into the final review, and the countermeasures were sorted into four categories.
