Developing a New Equation for Ranking Drainage Projects
Status: Ongoing
Funding Agency: New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
Abstract:
This study will strengthen NJDOT’s annual process for identifying and prioritizing high-risk flooding and icing locations by benchmarking drainage-management practices used by peer state agencies. The team will develop and distribute a targeted survey, synthesize findings on data collection, ranking factors, and remediation workflows, and translate lessons learned into actionable recommendations to improve NJDOT’s drainage ranking equation and related decision processes. The study will help NJDOT enhance data-driven drainage prioritization, reduce drainage-driven pavement failures, and improve overall network safety and resilience.
