Abstract:
This project will develop a data-driven framework to quantify how recurring roadway inundation accelerates pavement deterioration by integrating NJDOT’s pavement condition records with drainage, roadway geometry, and traffic datasets. The team will create an inundation exposure scoring method, evaluate performance trends across exposure levels, and conduct statistical comparisons between inundated and matched non-inundated segments to determine both statistical and operational significance. The results will provide NJDOT with implementable guidance for incorporating inundation exposure into screening, programming, and scoping, supporting better coordination of drainage improvements with pavement treatments to reduce unexpected failures and extend pavement service life.
