Abstract:
This project involves developing an IFROST mapper, which is an electromagnetic geophysical system for ground surveys in cold regions using multi-frequency electromagnetic induction (MFEMI). To overcome the challenges of site investigation in permafrost, a laboratory-scale MFEMI prototype was designed and manufactured, capable of inducing and capturing electromagnetic signals in geomaterials. This project also aims to develop dedicated software and algorithms to process and analyze these signals. The iFROST mapper provides a nonintrusive and efficient method to assess permafrost conditions, with significant implications for infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring, and defense operations in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions.
